Legio VI FFC Handbook:

Finally our own Handbook, but our Handbook will never be finished due to on going digs all over the empire, more details on suppliers and construction tips.  This Handbook was created to help our members and other Roman re-enactors for three reasons: 1) find good quality gear, 2) to know what is appropriate for our time period, and 3) help construct equipment from basic materials.

Although we, as a group, do not place a strong emphasis on historical accuracy we do encourage our members when that bug has bit them.  This is a hobby to enjoy!  The time period we aim for is 33 AD - 73 AD, but with the lack of unit specific evidence and the mis-interpertation of archeological finds, writen evidence, and over a thousand year of distorted history, you will soon find that we are simply recreating a "typical" first century legionary.

The basic equipment required for participation at events include: sandals/caligae, tunic/tunica, and belt/balteus with pugio/dagger.  Once these are completed, purchased, or borrowed from the legion (we maintain 20 complete kits) a recurit may take the field with the legion.

The equipment needed to finish your kit would include the basic kit and include: sword/gladius, lorica/armor, helmet/galea, scarf/focale, scutum/sheild, and pila/javelin.

For overnight campagins you may want to include some or all of the following: cloak, braccae/pants, marching pack/furca, sheild cover/tegimen, tools, mess gear, personal effects, etc....

Many of the descriptions of the items can be found on our website, also when ever a section is updated or revised the date at the top of the page is changed.  So that you can make sure you have the most up to date information.
